“Don’t stop me now”

Don’t stop me now

Queen are a British rock band formed in London in 1970. Their
classic line-up was Freddie Mercury as the lead vocals and piano, Brian
May for the guitar and vocals, Roger Taylor for drums and vocals
and John Deacon for bass. Their earliest works were influenced
by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band
gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by
incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock. Their
works topped the UK music charts for over nine consecutive weeks
which helped popularized their song “Bohemian Rhapsody” which
became their greatest known music.
Their song “Don’t stop me now” was released as a single in 1979
and was written by Freddie Mercury himself. The lyrics of the song
talks about how Freddie Mercury describes the good time that he is
having through lyrics that defies a lot of laws in Physics. The lyrics “I’m
floating around in ecstasy” and “I’m a shooting star leaping through the
sky like a tiger” uses the figurative language Hyperbole as Mercury
describes his feeling as floating in ecstasy and leaping through the sky
which can be defined as exaggeration since such things can never
happen in real life. But when taken literally Mercury will defy the laws
of gravity since anything which has a mass also have a gravitational
pull and the more massive the object is the stronger the gravitational
pull it will have.
The lyrics “I’m a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva” uses the
figurative language metaphor and it talks about kinematics. Lady
Godiva was a noblewoman married to Leofric in the 11 th century.
Godiva was troubled by the crippling taxes Leofric had levied on the
citizens of Coventry. After she repeatedly asked him to lessen the
burden, Leofric quipped that he would lower taxes only if she rode
naked on horseback through the center of town. Determined to help
the public, Godiva stripped off her clothes, climbed on her horse and
galloped through the market square with only her long flowing hair to
cover herself. This means that Mercury describes himself as a racing
car that travels as fast as Lady Godiva which will show the relationship
of position, velocity an acceleration of the body as Mercury races.
