A social contract is a theoretical agreement among members of a society to

protection.



The parameters of the social contract include:



- Mutual obligation: Both the state and citizens have responsibilities to each other

- Consent: Citizens agree, implicitly or explicitly, to be governed

- Rule of law: The state must govern according to established laws, not arbitrary

- Protection of rights: The state must protect the fundamental rights and freedoms
of citizens
