, 1. INORGANIC MACRONUTRIENTS AND
MICRONUTRIENTS
All living organisms are made of two distinct groups of chemical compounds. You
must be clear with the difference.
✓ Inorganic compounds: These compounds do not contain the element
Carbon (C) bonded to Hydrogen (H). For example, water and mineral salts.
✓ Organic compounds: These compounds are complex and always contain
element Carbon (C), Hydrogen (H) and Oxygen (O) bonded together. For
example, Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins and Nucleic acids.
1.WATER
Let’s start with water, quick question: Why do you think scientists were looking for
water in planet Mars?
Answer: There is absolutely no life without water. The water molecule has 2
Hydrogen atoms and 1 Oxygen atom. There are FIVE core functions of water
1.Provides structure
and support to cells. 2.Temperature regulator.
3.Transport medium.
medium
5. Universal solvent.
4.Chemical reactions
medium.
