• Micro:
At the micro level of sociopolitical drivers, the focus is the
immediate needs of individuals and families. To meet the
immediate needs, the health care administration (HCA) needs to
work on restoring the mistrust of its African American
population. This can be achieved through the HCA addressing
the language barrier through communication programs or
bilingual team members. The HCA needs to be trained in the
culture of the area to be able to provide culturally sensitive care
and teachings. Another way the HCA can work to gain trust of
the community would be to provide support to students in a
school setting. With this community having a high level of
poverty, working in the school system will all the HCA to
connect families to resources they need.
• Mezzo:
The mezzo level operates at the intermediate level, focusing on
group, organization and local communities. To function at the
mezzo level the HCA could partner with shelters, churches, and
treatment centers to work on the issues of poverty, drug abuse,
and high-risk health concerns. At the Mezzo level, the HCA
would be able to assist the community by implementing a crisis
intervention program. This community is at high risk of infant
mortality, HIV and drug abuse. By having a crisis program, the
people in the community have an immediate and safe support
plan to turn to.
• Macro:
The Macro level addresses large-scale social issues. At this level
we would expect the HCA to work with programs like Medicaid
to ensure the people in this community have health coverage.

, They could also work with housing programs like section 8 to
help find suitable housing for the low-income households.

1. Creating strategic partnerships is vital for the success of
community outreach for hospitals. A new relationship the
hospital can pair with would be a non-profit food bank to help
address the food crisis lower-income areas face. Another option
for the hospital would be to partner with a health care facility
that sees only Medicaid patients. By partnering with a facility
like this, patients would have better options for specialty care
when needed.
a. If the HCA were to use the two partnerships listed above,
they would be addressing quite a few of the issues
presented in the community. By partnering with a food
bank, the hospital, HCA and community can work towards
better and more food options for the people. If there are
better and more food options for the people, we could see
better physical and mental health in the community
members. Also, by partnering with a facility that only see
Medicaid patients, we can ensure the patients are getting
proper follow-up care. Proper follow up care could lead to
better controlled chronic illnesses, better maintenance of
heart disease and a decrease in death from cancer and
strokes.
2. One policy that can be implemented would be cultural
competency training for all healthcare workers. Having all co-
workers complete ongoing cultural competency training helps
reduce bias, develop cultural sensitivity and better
understanding of different cultures. This would allow the
healthcare workers to better understand and appreciate the
cultures they care for. If they have a better understanding of the
culture, they will be able to identify better ways to integrate
themselves into community and provide them with much needed
care. A procedure that would work towards advancing the
organizations goals would be to implement a robust referral
program. As the healthcare workers meet with the patients,
they can use a questionnaire to determine if and what services
they require. They would also need to lean on their cultural
