, MARKETING PLAN FOR DEE'S KITCHEN
1 INTRODUCTION
Dee's Kitchen is a catering SMME based in Mamelodi, Pretoria. It was established in 2011 through
the Mamelodi Business Hub initiative by the University of Pretoria and is owned by Debbie
Mdlongwa. The business provides catering services for weddings, funerals, birthdays, corporate
functions, and community events. Dee's Kitchen operates in South Africa's competitive food services
sector and serves the local Mamelodi community and surrounding Tshwane areas.
A marketing plan is a document that outlines a business's target market, marketing objectives, and
strategies to achieve those objectives (Kotler & Keller, 2016). For an SMME like Dee's Kitchen, a
marketing plan helps manage limited resources, identify growth opportunities, and differentiate the
business from competitors (Van Heerden & Bester, 2018).
2 RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS OF THE CURRENT SITUATION
2.1 INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT
2.1.1 Mission
A mission statement is a short declaration of an organisation's purpose and reason for existing
(Kotler & Keller, 2016). Dee's Kitchen does not have a formally documented mission statement.
However, its work with the Mamelodi Business Hub shows a commitment to community-based
entrepreneurship and quality service.
2.1.2 Resources
Human resources: Debbie Mdlongwa owns and runs Dee's Kitchen as head chef and manager.
She likely manages a small team of kitchen assistants and delivery staff. The team has basic
culinary and customer service skills but limited formal training in food safety, event planning,
or marketing.
Financial resources: As a small catering business, Dee's Kitchen has limited funds. Money may
come from the Mamelodi Business Hub, personal savings, or small loans. Cash flow is tight,
working capital is low, and access to credit is limited. Kitchen equipment and a delivery
vehicle are major assets that need careful maintenance.
Information resources: Dee's Kitchen keeps basic customer records, order histories, and
financial records. It likely lacks a proper customer relationship management (CRM) system or
market research data. Information is stored manually or on basic software, which limits
data-driven decision-making.
Supply resources: The business depends on suppliers for fresh produce, meat, spices, and
packaging. It likely sources from local markets, wholesalers, and national suppliers. Supply
reliability can be affected by seasonality, price changes, and supplier relationships. Cold
storage is limited, which affects inventory and waste control.
