Virtual-ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor
Comprehensive Study Guide with Practice Questions
& Detailed Rationales
Part 1: Understanding the Virtual-ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor
What Is the Virtual-ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor?
The Virtual-ATI (VATI) RN Comprehensive Predictor is a proctored, exit-
style assessment designed to evaluate your readiness to sit for the
NCLEX-RN. It provides a numeric indication of the likelihood of
passing the NCLEX-RN at your current level of readiness and guides
remediation efforts based on the content missed.
The Comprehensive Predictor is given at the end of a nursing program,
after you have taken all of your courses and completed ATI's Content
Mastery or Concept-Based Assessments. It is part of the Virtual-ATI
program, which includes personalized remediation and NCLEX
preparation.

Pretest Items 30 items (not scored)
Time Allotted 3 hours (verify with your institution)
Format Proctored, multiple-choice and NGN-style items

Result Predicted probability of passing NCLEX-RN + Proficiency Level
The exam includes Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) item types such as
Bow-tie questions, Matrix/Grid questions, Case studies with multiple
questions, Multiple-select (SATA) questions, and Ordered response
questions.
How Scoring Works
Your results include an overall percentage score, a predicted probability
of passing NCLEX (e.g., 92%, 96%, 99%), and a content mastery
breakdown. ATI defines a score of 68.7% or above as indicating high
probability of passing NCLEX-RN, and most nursing programs use a 65–
70% threshold as the line between "likely ready" and "needs additional
prep".

Important caveat: These are probability estimates based on population-
level data. Individual results vary significantly. A student at 72% who preps
specifically for their weak areas can and does pass. A student at 88% who
doesn't prepare for NGN formats can fail. Use this as a benchmark, not a
verdict.
Content Areas & Weighting
The Virtual-ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor mirrors the NCLEX-RN test
plan, covering these core nursing categories:
Content Area Approximate Weight Priority Tie
Management of Care 17–23% Tier 1
Pharmacological & Parenteral Therapies 12–18% Tier 1
Physiological Adaptation (Med-Surg) 11–17% Tier 1
Reduction of Risk Potential 9–15% Tier 1
, Content Area Approximate Weight Priority Tie
Safety & Infection Control 9–15% Tier 2
Basic Care & Comfort 6–12% Tier 2
Health Promotion & Maintenance 6–12% Tier 3
Psychosocial Integrity 6–12% Tier 3

High-Yield Content Areas (2025–2026 Focus)
Based on the most recent testing cycles, these are the highest-yield
content areas to prioritize:
Adult Health (Largest Portion): Heart failure, myocardial infarction,
COPD & asthma, diabetes management, electrolyte imbalances, renal
failure, shock & sepsis. Expect prioritization and emergency-based
scenarios.
Pharmacology: Insulin types & peak times, antihypertensives,
anticoagulants, opioids & reversal agents, antibiotics, psych meds. ATI
loves medication safety and side effects.
Maternal-Newborn: Postpartum hemorrhage, fetal heart rate patterns,
magnesium sulfate toxicity, newborn assessment, pre-eclampsia.
Pediatrics: Growth & development milestones, dehydration, respiratory
distress, congenital heart defects.
Mental Health: Suicide risk assessment, therapeutic communication,
schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, crisis intervention.
Leadership & Delegation: RN vs LPN vs UAP roles, who to see first,
assignment prioritization, scope of practice.
