Cognitive Level Distribution
Items are calibrated across cognitive levels consistent with NCLEX-RN test design: approximately 20%
assess recall (knowledge of facts, principles, and procedures); 50% assess application (use of knowledge in
clinical situations); and 30% assess analysis (clinical reasoning, prioritization, and management decisions).
Approximately 75% of items use a scenario-based format to reflect authentic clinical decision-making,
while 25% assess direct knowledge.
How to Use This Examination
Each item presents a clinical stem followed by four response options (A–D). The correct option is marked
[CORRECT] in green, and the answer letter is restated beneath each item. A rationale of two to four
sentences follows, integrating the NUR 2513 curriculum, AWHONN standards, and current evidence-based
maternal-child nursing practice to explain why the correct response is best and why the distractors represent
common errors in clinical reasoning, assessment, prioritization, or management.
