FOREWORD
After five months of hard work on this research, I have completed it with great pleasure. I am very
grateful for the opportunity that I have been given to prepare this report and to thereby try to reduce
the poverty situation in South Africa on my own way. This has been an unforgettable experience.
I am very pleased with the end result. I hope the report will now fully meet the requirement and
expectations of Mhani Gingi and that it will contribute to the further development of the organisation.
My research has been commissioned by Mhani Gingi and I would like to thank Dorothy van Hoorn, my
supervisor, for assisting in my report and Lillian Masebenza, the founding director of Mhani Gingi, for
setting up this great network for social entrepreneurs in South Africa. In addition, my thanks go to my
tutor, Marie José Kanters. She has provided me with support in the questions I had about the
research. Incidentally, I also want to thank Jill Heyes and Mathilda Fourie, because they gave me the
chance to interview them as professional social entrepreneurs. Alongside them, I would like to thank
all the network members of Mhani Gingi, because they also gave me the chance to interview them.
Have fun reading my report.
