Acute one time and extremely intense

General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS) theory that postulates that every body strives to maintain homeostasis.
GAS adaptive responses • Body registers alarm and temporarily lowers resistances, blood pressure may
increase, levels of some hormones may rise
• Next, if stressor continues, body creates a resistance by attempting to
maintain normal processes
• Finally, with continued stress, body enters state of exhaustion and may not be
able to sustain activity.
