There are four basic phases of wound healing: 1. Hemostasis, 2.
Inflammatory, 3. Proliferative, 4. Remodeling or maturation. During
Hemostasis, vasoconstriction occurs to prevent the body from bleeding
out rapidly, this is achieved by platelets delivered to the site to form a
clot. Next, the inflammatory cells are activated, and the wound starts
to close. Neutrophils, cytokines and mediators promote the
development of new blood vessels, thrombosis, and epithelialization
