Identify potential sources of measurement error for the Skinfold method.
Some sources of error for skinfold measurement are technician's skill, type of
caliper used, client factors, and taking the measurement at the wrong area.
Identify suitable field methods and prediction equations to estimate body composition
for each of the following subgroups of the population: older adults, children, obese
individuals, and athletes.
, For older adults and obese clients I would use BIA, and other anthropometric
measurements to look at their body composition and fat distribution. Athletes
and Children I would use Skinfold measurements to find their body
composition.
Identify two ways to measure (not estimate) client's Db.
Skinfold Method, and Bioelectric Impedance Method.
Explain how BMI, WHR, WHTR, and waist circumference may be used to identify clients
at risk due to obesity.
BMI is used to assess health risk based on studies done that assumed people
who are disproportionately heavy are so because of excess fat mass. This isn't
always true, so BMI needs to be taken with a grain of salt. WHR looks more at
fat distribution and assesses health risks based on where your fat is stored. Fat
stored around the belly leaves you at a much higher risk for CVD. WHTR has
been found to be consistently superior to both BMI and waist circumference
in terms of serving as an indicator of disease control. It looks at your waist
circumference and height.
Distinguish between total Db and FFB density.
