The Complete Distinction Assignment Guide & Blueprint (Aims A-E)
📘 MODULE 1: Learning Aims A & B – Business Structures & Stakeholders
Part 1: Contrasting Business Profiles (P1, P2)
To hit the top marks, you must analyse two businesses that operate in completely different
ways. Use this structural layout:
Legal Structure & Governance
- What is the specific legal structure of your chosen organization?
- Who owns or controls this organization, and how is it governed or managed at the
executive level?
- Do the owners or stakeholders have limited liability or unlimited liability? Explain what
this means for their personal financial risk.
Business Sector & Size
- Which sector of the economy does this business operate within (Private, Public, or
Voluntary/Third sector)? State the primary motivation of that sector.
- Based on the total number of employees, how is this organization classified by size
(Micro, Small, Medium, or Large)?
- Provide the specific, up-to-date staff headcount figures to justify your size classification.
Primary Aims & Objectives
- What are the primary financial and non-financial aims of this organization?
- Outline at least three specific strategic objectives this organization must achieve to fulfill
its overall mission.
- How does the organization measure its success (e.g., maximizing profit, increasing
market share, or achieving specific social and charitable goals)?
Make sure you do both a profit and non-profit organisation!
Part 2: Stakeholder Conflict Matrix (P3, M1)
Distinction Tip: Different groups want different things from a business. Explain this exact clash to
secure your Merit/Distinction marks:
Example: The Tesco Conflict: Shareholders want Tesco to cut staff costs to pay out higher
dividends. However, Tesco employees want higher hourly wages and better working conditions.
Management must balance keeping prices low for customers while keeping profits high for
investors.
