A.

Based on the information in the given scenario, it is my opinion that the company is at
stage two of the organizational life cycle model. Stage two is the growth through
direction stage. Even though the company has been very successful in its growth, they
are lacking in multiple areas. Since the structure of the hierarchy is used by the
leadership of the company, there is no motivation for the employees to be creative or
offer recommendations for change. The company also needs to update its processes
and software systems to keep up with future growth.

To survive this stage, I recommend that the company invest in its employees. Training
and development opportunities need to be made available for all employees.
Employees should be encouraged to share ideas and make suggestions for possible
changes or improvements. Creating innovation committees throughout the various
departments could rejuvenate employee morale. Another suggestion would be to
update any obsolete software systems in the company, this would help employees do
their jobs more efficiently.

B.
There are countless differences between a learning organization and a traditional
organization. A learning organization has fewer layers between top management
and lower-level employees, whereas a traditional organization has more layers
between top management and lower-level employees. This greatly affects
communication within an organization, the more layers, the slower the
communication throughout the organization. The culture of a traditional organization
does not promote innovation, in a learning organization innovation is promoted.
Change in a traditional organization is very challenging because it is not very
flexible. However, a learning organization is flexible, and change is embraced.

1.
The company is currently in stage 2 of Woolner’s 5-stage model.
