position but was denied and put into jail for a month. He was then let go to the Cothen Court
(1717-1723), where he produced instrumental music (clavier music). At 33, Bach assumed the position
as cantor of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Leipzig, Germany. He worked in Leipzig for 27 years.
