Wilder intentions with the film

Billy Wilder's intentions in Some Like It Hot were to challenge conventional norms around
gender, sexuality, and identity while delivering sharp social satire through comedy. By using
cross-dressing and mistaken identity, Wilder cleverly exposed the absurdities of rigid gender
roles and societal expectations. His aim was not only to entertain but also to provoke
thought about the fluidity of identity and the performative aspects of gender. Through witty
dialogue, farcical situations, and bold themes for its time, Wilder crafted a film that was both
subversive and enduringly funny, ultimately culminating in the famous final line—"Nobody's
perfect"—which underscored the film's celebration of human imperfection and acceptance.

Message of the film

Billy Wilder's message in Some Like It Hot is that people shouldn't be judged by
appearances or strict social rules. The film shows that love and identity can be flexible, and
in the end, it reminds us that no one is perfect — and that's okay.
