Tips for studying for the exam and how to use this summary
● Make sure you know where to find specific information in the PowerPoints, articles,
documents and book that will be available during the exam.
○ Avoid wasting time on memorizing how to report things if this information is
accessible during the exam; instead focus on knowing where to locate it.
○ It is important to know how to use the example answers, because these templates
will likely need to be adjusted to address new questions.
○ Create a short overview for yourself of where to find specific information (such as
assumptions for a statistical analysis and analysis steps). You can even write out this
overview at the start of the exam to help you navigate the material quickly.
○ Practice locating each topic and statistical test quickly.
● Ensure you understand the explanations provided in the lectures and tutorials and how to
do the weekly tests and practice assignments.
○ Try explaining the content to yourself or others, and practice by doing the
assignments multiple times.
○ It is okay if there is a part you find challenging. For example, aiming to understand at
least 90% of the material is still sufficient to achieve a very high grade.
○ Practice avoiding APA reporting errors when reporting data, as these mistakes will
unnecessarily cost you points during the exam.
● You do not need to ‘study’ the articles; simply read through their summaries (which are
purposefully quite extended) once before each corresponding weekly test and once before
the exam. This will ensure you know where to locate key information when needed.
● To maintain a clear picture of the material, this summary integrated some lecture and
tutorial notes into the summaries of the corresponding articles, rather than creating
separate notes for these lectures and tutorials. These parts of the article summaries are
