(SQ2 SA1) Describe and discuss the concepts of "Reliability" and "Maintainability."
What is the relationship between them and why are they important in aviation? -
ANS-Reliability: how long a piece of equipment performs it's intended function. (mean
time before failure)
Maintainability: the efficiency of repairing a piece of equipment. (mean time to repair)
Availability: the ability for a piece of equipment to perform it's function.
If an equipment is "reliable" is it more "available" to perform it's function.
If it's easy to maintain is it easier to restore.
reliability+maintainability=availability
(SQ2 SA2) Describe and discuss "Reliability Centered Maintenance" (RCM). Relate the
role of probability and severity of outcome to the restoration approach to system
components. - ANS-Two approaches to RCM
1.) engineering: severity of failure, and probability of failure
2.) maintenance: prevent failure, repair failure
- Probability Low Severity Low = repair low
- Probability High Severity Low = repair high
- Probability Low Severity High = prevent/repair high
