Theories for LOA
Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development
Piaget’s theory covers an insight into the way that a child’s
intellect progresses as they grow from infancy to adolescence,
through 4 stages: Sensorimotor, Pre-Operational, Concrete
Operational and Formal Operational:
Sensorimotor Stage 0-2 Years old
Experiences are made
through the senses
(sight, hearing, touch,
taste, smell)
Development of a
working memory
Gaining awareness of
objects
Growth in curiosity
Development of gross
motor skills
Pre-Operational Stage 2-7 Years
Expanded imagination
Learning how to speak
More Symbolism
A significant growth in
curiosity – Children reach
their intuitive age
Children tend to have a
more egocentric way of
thinking ~ unable to
think in perspectives
other than their own
Concrete Operational Stage 7-11 years old
Discovering logic
