C921 Summative Performance Assessment Narrative
Introduction
Alignment of Prompts to Course Objectives and Student Learning Outcomes
Alignment is a foundational element of effective assessment design because it ensures that every
component of an assessment—its scenario, prompts, and scoring criteria—directly supports the
module's intended learning outcomes. When assessment items are purposefully aligned with
course objectives and student learning outcomes, students are evaluated on the exact knowledge
and skills the curriculum intends for them to achieve. In this assessment, each prompt was
deliberately crafted to map to at least one of the module’s targeted objectives, reinforcing
constructive alignment and promoting meaningful learning.
Course Objective 1 emphasizes the analysis of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and their
influence on healthcare access, equity, and community outcomes. Prompt 1 mirrors this
expectation by requiring students to analyze community data to identify a priority health concern
shaped by SDOH factors. This alignment ensures that students practice the analytical
competency specified in the objective. Course Objective 2 focuses on evaluating how disability,
chronic illness, and mental health conditions affect care access and patient outcomes in
community settings. Prompt 2 directly supports this objective by asking students to evaluate the
role of these conditions as barriers within the identified community challenge.
Similarly, Student Learning Outcome 1 requires students to explain how disabilities, chronic
illness, and mental health conditions affect access to care and continuity of care. This aligns
