WGU E010
Foundations of Programming (Python)
Objective Assessment Practice - Version 2
30 Original OA-Style Questions + Answers + Detailed Rationales
September 2026 Alignment Edition

Independent Practice Resource
This assessment is an original practice set built from WGU's published E010 competencies and current 2026
assessment-format reports. It is not an official WGU exam, leaked question bank, or reproduction of
proprietary WGU/zyBooks assessment items.

Designed to model a current coding-heavier OA form: 14 selected-response items + 16 short
coding/code-repair items.

1. September 2026 OA Alignment and Research Basis
WGU's current public program materials describe E010 as a Python foundations course focused on writing,
troubleshooting, and debugging simple Python programs; Python syntax and structure; variables; loops;
conditional statements; development environments; data structures; and functional programs. WGU
publicly identifies four technical competencies: creating functional programs, executing Python code in
different development environments, identifying basic Python programming constructs, and manipulating
data structures.

Public WGU materials do not expose the live Objective Assessment question bank or a question-by-question
official blueprint. Therefore, this Version 2 resource uses the public competency scope plus multiple recent
2026 student reports to model the assessment format without claiming access to confidential exam content.

Current format signals used in Version 2
Recent 2026 pass reports repeatedly describe 30 total questions; roughly half selected-response and half short
coding/code-repair, with some forms reported as coding-heavier (about 40/60). Coding items are commonly
described as completing 1-2 lines, repairing a small bug, or finishing a short function rather than writing a
large program from scratch. Students also continue to report strong similarity among ZyBooks chapter
assessments, the PA, and the OA style. Jupyter/development-environment concepts, data types, errors, loops,
strings, data structures, code tracing, and short functions recur in recent reports.

What Version 2 intentionally changes from Version 1
 All 30 questions are new. The scenarios, values, functions, and coding prompts are different from
Version 1.
 The format is slightly more coding-heavy: 14 selected-response items and 16 coding/code-repair items,
reflecting recent reports that some OA forms contain more coding than the PA.
 The exact competency distribution remains / so the practice set still mirrors the reported
competency weighting as closely as a 30-item set permits.
 The coding section emphasizes short, generalizable logic and hidden-test awareness rather than
memorizing one exact example.

2. Practice Assessment Instructions
1. Attempt all 30 questions before using the answer-and-rationale section.
2. For coding items, preserve the function name and parameter names shown unless the prompt
explicitly says otherwise.
3. Return values when the prompt says return. Do not add print() unless output is explicitly required. You
may use print() temporarily while testing, then remove it.
4. Assume hidden tests may call your function with valid inputs different from the example. Avoid hard-
coding example answers.
5. For repair items, make the smallest change that corrects the stated behavior.
6. Assume Python 3 behavior: / returns a float; // performs floor division; slicing excludes the stop index.
7. Use the competency scorecard at the end to identify which domain needs another round of practice.

OA simulation tip
Give yourself one uninterrupted attempt. For the coding items, write the answer from memory first. Then test
it in a Python environment. That sequence builds recall instead of recognition.
