Section Deliverable / Task Format
▶ SECTION A — Excel Workbook (2 sheets: original data + pivot table)
A Prepare Excel workbook — Sheet 1 must contain the ORIGINAL, Excel
UNALTERED ED visit dataset (2016–2021). Do NOT change any data
on this sheet.
A Sheet 2 — Pivot Table: Insert a PivotTable from the dataset. Add ALL Excel
fields; then REMOVE Standard Error, Lower 95% CI, Upper 95% CI, and
Reliable. Drag Group, Subgroup, and Leading 10 Ranking to the Filters
area. Select your chosen group, relevant subgroups, and Rankings 1 &
2 only.
A Insert a Column PivotChart on Sheet 2 showing your filtered pivot table Excel
data (top 2 diagnoses + top 2 reasons for ED visits).
A Write 2 Notable Variation statements directly on Sheet 2 (below or Excel
beside the pivot table). Each statement must include the specific finding
AND supporting calculation.
▶ SECTION B — PowerPoint: Research Question
B1 Craft your research question. Independent variable = your chosen group PowerPoint
(e.g., sex, age, race). Dependent variable = 1 of the top 2 diagnoses OR
1 of the top 2 reasons for ED visits shown in your pivot chart. Question
CANNOT start with 'Why' or 'What'. Example: 'How does sex influence
annual ED visits for reported injury and poisoning?'
B1a Justify your variable choice in speaker notes: (1) Explain WHY you want PowerPoint
to explore this relationship. (2) Explain HOW this will help reduce ED
visits.
▶ SECTION C — PowerPoint: Literature Review & Evidence
C1 Slide: Summarize the research question and its importance for ED PowerPoint
quality improvement. Explain HOW you created the pivot table (method
steps) and WHY. Embed or paste the pivot chart showing top 2
diagnoses + top 2 reasons for visits.
, C2 State 2 specific findings from the pivot chart in speaker notes. Be PowerPoint
precise — reference the actual data values visible in your chart.
C3 Find 3 peer-reviewed articles, case studies, or best practice guidelines. PowerPoint
Each source gets its OWN slide. ON the slide: title, author, link/location.
IN speaker notes: 5–7 sentence summary + how the source addresses
ED challenges.
C4 Present 2 specific, actionable steps based on your C3 literature review. PowerPoint
Steps must be practical and directly informed by the 3 sources. Place in
speaker notes.
▶ SECTION D — PowerPoint: Citations & References
D Include in-text citations for all sources used throughout the presentation. PowerPoint
Add a reference list slide at the end. DO NOT cite WGU course
resources — only outside peer-reviewed sources.
