Characteristics of Living things
1. Movement: Generally, living things are capable of carrying out
one form of movement or another. Most animals move from one
place to another on their own, either in search of food, mate,
shelter or escaping from danger. Most plants are fixed and can
only move certain parts of their body such as shoots and roots in
growth movements, opening and closing of some flowers and
leaves.
2. Respiration: All living things respire. All living things need energy
for work, the chemical energy for work is released by the
oxidation of respiratory substrates. Therefore, respiration is the
breakdown of chemical substances to release energy.
