Nach bestimmten Verben, Ausdrücken oder in bestimmten Positionen im Satz steht entweder der to-Infinitiv oder das
Gerund (-ing-Form).

1. To-Infinitive

Verwendung Beispiel

um einen Zweck auszudrücken (wozu?) People travel to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon.

nach be + Adjektiv It's important to learn about Native American culture.

nach what, where, when, why, who usw. I don't know what to eat.

nach bestimmten Verben She hopes to visit California soon.


Verben, nach denen der to-Infinitiv folgt:
decide, forget, help, hope, learn, need, offer, plan, promise, remember, seem, try, want, would like, would love, would
hate, would prefer, come, wish, swear, manage, choose, prepare, agree


FORMEL Verneinung: not + to + Infinitiv

2. Gerund (-ing)

Verwendung Beispiel

als Subjekt des Satzes Cheating is not allowed.

nach einer Präposition (of, for, at, in, …) I'm tired of waiting for you.

avoid, enjoy, finish, hate, keep, like, love, (don't) mind, prefer, recommend, spend time, stop, suggest, discuss,
celebrate, practice, advise, understand, miss, dislike, support, resume


MERKE Manche Verben (z. B. like, love, hate, prefer) können mit BEIDEN Formen stehen – meist mit leicht unterschiedlicher
