Grammatik: Nebensätze
Adverbial-, Relativ- & Participle Clauses • Klasse 8–9

Nebensätze verbinden Informationen mit dem Hauptsatz. Adverbiale Nebensätze geben zusätzliche Umstände an,
Relativsätze beschreiben Personen/Dinge genauer, und Partizipialsätze machen Sätze kürzer.

1. Adverbial Clauses
Adverbiale Nebensätze werden mit Konjunktionen eingeleitet und stehen meist nach dem Hauptsatz. Steht der
Nebensatz vor dem Hauptsatz, folgt ein Komma.

a) Ortssätze (place)
➜ where (wo, wohin)
➜ wherever (wo/wohin auch immer)
➜ everywhere (überall wo/wohin)

BEISPIEL It was built where tracks had run directly at street level.
BEISPIEL Everywhere you go, there are wild flowers.

b) Vergleichssätze (comparison)
➜ as (wie), as…as (so…wie)
➜ as if / as though (als ob)
➜ than (als)
Nach as if / as though und than kann auch das Simple Past oder Past Perfect stehen, um eine irreale Handlung zu beschreiben.

BEISPIEL The High Line offers just as much as it offers adults.
BEISPIEL His dad is playing tennis as if he is playing it for the first time.

c) Gegensatzsätze (contrast)
➜ although / though (obwohl)
➜ even if / even though (auch wenn; selbst wenn)
➜ while / whereas (während, wohingegen)

BEISPIEL Although it is one and a half miles long, it's only 50 feet at its widest point.
BEISPIEL John likes vegetables while his sister likes meat for dinner.

2. Relative Clauses

Defining relative clauses (bestimmend)
Geben Informationen, die für das Verständnis des Satzes NOTWENDIG sind. Kein Komma davor/danach.
➜ Personen: who oder that
➜ Dinge & Tiere: which oder that

BEISPIEL My heart goes out to the people who/that lost their homes.
