Florida Core Pesticide Exam
FDACS A state agency that enforces the provisions of FIFRA and the Florida Pesticide Law.
Responsible for administering the three Florida laws that govern applicator
licensing.
FIFRA Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act. Federal law that provides the
overall framework for the federal pesticide program.
Limited Certification A designation on a license issued under the Structural Pest Control Act that enables
the licensee to apply pesticides only under certain prescribed circumstances.
Ordinance Laws developed by local government. Enforced by city or county.
EPA Environmental Protection Agency
Responsible for registering or authorizing pesticide products.
Classifications All pesticides are classified according to their toxicity, use pattern, and
environmental effects.
Two main classifications: Unclassified use (general use) and restricted use
RUP Sold to only certified and licensed applicators
Types of applicators: Private, Public, and commercial
Private Applicator A certified applicator who uses or supervises the use of any restricted-use pesticide
to produce an agricultural commodity on his/her land..
Public Applicator Any applicator employed by a federal, state, city, or other local agency or
government entity.
Commercial Applicator A certified applicator who uses pesticides on the job, other than for agricultural
production on private property.
Section III FIFRA Federal registration of pesticide
A Special Local Need Registration (SLN) allows uses of pesticides for crops or sites not listed on the Section 3 labeling in the state it
was issued.

Emergency Exemption a section 18 exemption that allows the sale and use of a registered pesticide
product for a specific non-registered purpose during a specified period if no feasible
alternative is available
