Task 2 D253 - Values-Based Leadership Presentation Guidelines and Tips
A. Prepare a multimedia presentation (suggested length of 8–12 slides) to share your leadership
vision based on your reflection on the VIA Character Strengths Survey you completed in Task 1
by doing the following:
1. Create an introduction to your team meeting in which you share a personal, authentic
story to connect with and inspire your team.
To start I would like to say good afternoon and welcome to the meeting, my name is Jaquetta,
and I am excited to be joining you all as the new customer service manager. This meeting is just
an introduction to who I am and how I plan to serve you all as a values-based leader. So, I would
like to start with a little story-time.
I never imagined myself in a leadership role. I’ve always been soft spoken, so when I was in
college, I was the student that sat at the front of the class, and I stayed out of the way. One class I
remember was theatre appreciation. My instructor decided to make our final assignment a group
assignment and I was chosen to be the playwright and assistant director. I was mortified because
in this role, I was tasked with leading the discussion about the play and of course writing it. On
top of that I had to help put it together. I never in a million years thought I would be chosen to
direct anything. I wasn’t a stereotypical leader. I wasn’t an extrovert; I didn’t know how to move
a crowd let alone direct a group of individuals who were dependent on me for instruction. What I
had to learn was that not fitting into the age-old societal depiction of leadership, didn’t make me
incapable of being a good leader and I am so thankful that my instructor put me in that role
because I ended up writing the play, gaining new friends that I still go and see perform to this
day and most importantly I learned that I could do something that seemed impossible to me
which was being an effective leader and so I just want to say to you all that you are capable of
being effective leaders, even if you’re shy or not the most outspoken person and I’m going to
leave you with a quote by Alexandra Elle that goes “You can be soft, and still be sturdy, you can
be a force and still be delicate.” so never count yourself out. Show up authentically and people
will allow you to guide them.
2. Using at least one of the six company values provided in the scenario, create a values-
based vision statement specific to your new role as the customer service manager.
Here, our vision is deeply rooted in the principles of integrity and respect. In this workplace,
these values are the driving force behind our leadership and company culture. We will conduct
business with the deepest level of transparency and accountability. Our actions will always align
with our words and will never compromise these principles, even in the face of adversity.
We will treat every colleague and customer with respect while recognizing their unique needs,
contributions, and perspectives. We will foster a diverse and inclusive environment and work

collaboratively, uplifting once another to achieve our collective goals. Lastly, we will embrace
innovation and adaptability, consistently seeking new ways to improve our processes to better
serve our customers.
Our vision is the embodiment of their value, and our goal is to create a customer service
experience that is unparalleled in its reliability, authenticity and commitment to integrity and
respect.
3. Help your team understand emotional intelligence and how it will impact the team’s
effectiveness by doing the following in the next portion of your presentation:
a. Discuss the importance of self-awareness, including an example of how you and your
team will use self-awareness in your daily interactions, focusing on one of the following
elements:
So as a values-based leader I promote self -awareness and I believe it will be detrimental to our
success as a team. You may be asking what it means to be self-aware and how we use self-
awareness in our daily interactions.
For the sake of the meeting, I’m going to focus on self -assessment. Who are you as a person,
what do you aspire to be? What are your strengths and weaknesses? These are all questions that
will help you better understand yourself. This is important because it can help you understand
what you need to change to be successful in accomplishing your goals and in turn the collective
goals of the organization. So how can you use self-awareness daily? Let’s say for example, that
the daily goal for calls is 30. However, I only managed to complete 15. Some questions I could
ask myself would be, what can I improve on? I may have trouble locating the information I need
to give, or I may struggle to enter data and talk simultaneously. These are things that can be
improved and being able to identify them is the first step in the process.
What is Self-Assessment?
Evaluating and reflecting on your abilities, qualities, and personal characteristics. Identifying
your strengths, weakness, values, and goals. Self-reflection will help you understand yourself
and your aspirations.
b. Discuss the importance of self-management, including an example of how you and your
team will use self-management in your daily interactions, focusing on one of the following
elements:
Next, we’re going to discuss self-management. Self-management is the ability to regulate your
thoughts, behaviors and emotions in a way that promotes productivity and effectiveness. Taking
responsibility for your actions and decisions and actively working to achieve goals and adapt to
changing circumstances. One of the most important parts of self-management is transparency.
