D253 Task 1: Values-Based Leadership Development Reflection

(RSM3)

D253 - TASK 1: Becoming an Effective Values-Based Leader

Name: Israel Lopez
Student ID: 010258980

A1) Describe an experience in which you used one of your five signature strengths
(i.e., the first five) from the survey results to overcome a challenge.

As an employee at a Natural Gas Plant, I encounter conflicts and differences in opinions
regarding process operational work. I often rely on my leadership skills to mediate and
resolve disputes between my peers. To ensure a prompt and fair resolution, I adopt an
open-minded approach and carefully consider each party's perspective. My ability to
analyze complex situations and offer practical solutions has helped me defuse many
conflicts successfully. Additionally, I leverage my excellent sense of humor to ease
tensions and foster positive relationships among team members.

A) Explain how you could apply the strength identified in part A1 as a values-
based leader in your new position as the customer service manager from the
scenario.

As a leader, it is crucial to exhibit fairness, honesty, and transparency. In this
particular scenario, my leadership skills would enable me to foster a collaborative
culture. I would objectively assess Sophia's suitability for the team lead position,
and if necessary, have a difficult conversation with her. In the event that Sophia is
indeed the most appropriate candidate for the role, I would communicate
transparently with the group and ensure that my decision is not perceived as
biased. Additionally, I would motivate Michael to become more involved and
improve his performance.

2. Describe an experience in which being stronger in one of your five lesser
strengths (i.e., the last five) from the survey results could have positively
influenced the outcome.

I struggle with perseverance. I started my college journey when I was a junior in high
school. Coming from a foreign country where the school system is very challenging
and demanding was a culture shock when I entered the American school system. The
laid-back attitude and repetitiveness of my classes were boring and monotonous by
the time I was a junior I qualified to take place in a program called “Running Start”
This program allows high school students to move on to college early to graduate high
