THE LIVING WORLD
PART 1
TOPIC-1 DIVERSITY IN THE LIVING WORLD
.We can see numerous living organisms in our environment ,
they have different colour , features , size . They may be
unicellular or multicellular etc .
.Unicellular organisms are organisms which contain one cell and
there is no division of labour. They have simple structures. They
perform all the essential life functions such as nutrition ,
movement, excretion, growth, response to stimuli, and reproduction.
. Multicellular organisms are the organisms which contain
multiple numbers of cells and there is a division of labour. They
have complex structures. They perform all the essential life
functions such as Nutrition , respiration , transportation ,
excretion , growth , reproduction , response to stimuli .
. BIODIVERSITY - It means the number and different types of
organisms present on the planet earth .
, . NUMBER OF SPECIES KNOWN AND DETAILED - 1.7-1.8 million
.Nomenclature - It means to systematize or standardise the
naming of living organisms .
In other words it is to make a particular name of the living
organism uniform in the whole world .
.IDENTIFICATION - Nomenclature or assigning a name is only
achievable when the organism which is characterized is precise
and we know what organism the name is attached to. This is
identification.
. A scientific name is the standardized name given to a species of
organism and it is accepted by biologists all over the world and it
usually follows the binomial nomenclature system. This naming
system was given by Carolus Linnaeus , which uses two
components - the genus name and the specific epithet.
. Example of scientific name - Homo sapiens which is the
scientific name of humans.
.GENUS NAME - This represents the group to which an organism
belongs.
