, UNISA | MNM2615 Marketing in Africa: Assignment 01
Introduction
Marketing decisions taken by any enterprise operating on the African continent cannot be
separated from the environment in which that enterprise trades. The technological infrastruc-
ture available to a business, the age and distribution of the population it serves, and the pace
at which mobile and internet connectivity is expanding all shape what a marketer can real-
istically plan and deliver (UNISA, 2026). This assignment applies these three environmental
themes to a single, real, small enterprise operating in a residential neighbourhood, drawing on
a discussion held with its owner. Green Corner Mini-Market, a family-run convenience store
and grocery outlet, is used throughout as the case business. The assignment first outlines
the background of the enterprise, then discusses technological progress in Africa and its
practical application to the business, followed by the implications of population structure for
marketing, and concludes with an examination of the marketing implications of growth in
mobile and internet access.
