Affect stomach lining increases risk for bleeding
- salicylates (aspirin), lessens the symptoms of inflammation, reduces
fever, thins blood, tinnitus. Give with milk/food
- Proplonic Acid Derivatives (ibuprofen), causes stomach pain the
same as aspirin, give with milk and food.




Cox 2
- Celebrex
Affects renal function monitor creatinine and BUN. Still give with
food/milk




Other anti-inflammatories
Steroids, these affect blood sugar and can leave patient
immunocompromised. Makes sure to monitor these two things. You
can't stop these immediately you have to taper the dose.




1st gen antihistamine
DROWSINESS and DRY MOUTH
- Chlorpheniramine

,- Benadryl (Don't give if the patient has BPH, means they will have
more problems peeing. Also don't give if the patient has glaucoma).




2nd gen Antihistamine
DOESNT Cause drowsiness.
- Claratin
- Zyrtec
- Allegra
- Astelin




Antitussives
Help with dry cough
- Robitussin




Expectorant
Aids in secretions
Guafinesine




Intranasal
- Flonase (fluconasone)
- Nasacort (Triamanolone)

, Has steroids, can cause bleeding, etc.

CBC - WBC elevated means infection
ESR - rbcs settling at the bottom
Cultures of Urine, Blood and Spit

gets IV antibodies.
