Lab 1 Notebook
Title:Introduction to Medical Terminology
CS01 Keeping a Lab notebook
Objective: To establish a lab organized template and learn about what we will be learning
in this lab course, as well as important things that need to be kept in mind during this
lab.
Procedure:
1. Where each step of the protocol is given
2. Clearly indicate deviations that could occur during the experiment- needs to be
marked in red

Lab 2 Notebook
Title: CSL02 Basics of Microscopy
Objective: Become familiar with basic light microscope components and how to load samples
for viewing.
Procedure:
1. Review parts and components
2. Loading a sample onto the microscope
3. Selecting magnification
4. Making necessary adjustments for sample visualization
Notes:
○ Helium microscope, support neck and base at all times
○ Large knob - smaller fine focus
○ If unsure of magnification, go to the lowest magnification
○ Parts of microscope
■ Eye piece: adjust it to fit both eyes and should be able to see one circle
■ Arm and neck: support microscope(hold both when moving)
■ Objective lenses: Objectives provide the magnification(4 diff ones”) based
on type of sample you have (4x, 10x, 40x, 100x) from least to greatest
■ Stage: surface to place sample, holding w clamp
■ Iris diaphragm: under stage, control amount of light going into
microscope.
■ Base: bottom of microscope, flat on surface.
○ How to load a sample to be view
■ Place sample on sage and secure
■ Turn on the microscope, control the light with the knob or the diaphragm
○ Visualization
■ Objectives
● Dry(10 & 40) vs oil (100) better resolution - add a drop
■ Total magnification = the total of the objective times the power of
eyepiece
■ Intensity of light source
● Too bright = saturation
