TRANSPLANTATION
,Tissue or Organ transplantation
surgical procedure in which tissue or organ is
removed from donor’s body and placed in the
recipient’s body, aim to replace a damaged
or missing tissue or organ.
Donor: Person who gives away his / her tissue or
organ.
Recipient: Person who takes tissue or organ from
donor.
Transplant or Graft is an organ, tissue or a
group of cells removed from one person (the
donor) and transplanted into another person
(the recipient) or moved from one site to
another in the same person.
, TISSUES AND ORGANS THAT CAN BE TRANSPLANTED
Presently, it is possible to transplant many different
tissues and organs , some of which are mentioned
below:
a. Most common transplantation is blood transfusion
b. Cells: Bone marrow and stem cells.
c. Organs: heart, kidney, pancreas, lungs, liver,
stomach and intestine.
d. Tissues: bones, tendons, corneas, skin, heart
valves, veins, cartilage and other connective
tissues.
