Proposed Topic: The Relationship Between Ethical Servant Leadership and Teacher

Engagement, Retention, and Organizational Loyalty in K–12 Schools

,ETHICAL LEADERSHIP 1

Introductory Paragraph
This section describes the methodology that will be used to explore how ethical servant

leadership practices affect teacher engagement, retention, and organizational loyalty within a K–

12 education system in the southeastern United States. This section starts with the researcher,

the responsibilities of data collection, and ethical research practices. This section also describes

the steps that will be taken to minimize researcher bias through bracketing and reflective

practices. Moreover, the research methodology is explained in terms of a qualitative flexible

design methodology, a single-case study approach, and methodological triangulation, which

provide a framework for teachers’ experiences and perceptions of ethical servant leadership in

the educational systems in question (Makumbe, 2025). Servant leadership has been associated

with creating supportive work environments that empower employees, encourage professional

growth, and strengthen organizational loyalty through ethical relationships and shared values

(Lee et al., 2024). Building upon this body of literature, this study seeks to explore how teachers

experience ethical servant leadership within a K–12 educational organization and how those

experiences influence their engagement, retention, and organizational loyalty. Collectively, these

methodological decisions provide a systematic framework for exploring how ethical servant

leadership is experienced by teachers and how those experiences contribute to organizational

outcomes within the selected educational organization.

Purpose Statement

The purpose of this qualitative single case study is to explore how ethical servant

leadership practices influence teacher engagement, retention, and organizational loyalty within a

K–12 educational organization in the southeastern United States. The researcher will use a

qualitative single case study design to explore how school and district leaders develop, model,

and reinforce ethical standards that strengthen trust and credibility within their organizations.

Using this design, the researcher will gather rich, detailed information through interviews,

document reviews, and observations to identify effective leadership behaviors, organizational

policies, and cultural conditions that promote ethical integrity and sustainable performance in

education.

Role of the Researcher

The goal of this qualitative single case study is to explore the impact of ethical servant

leadership on teacher engagement, retention, and organizational loyalty in a K–12 educational

organization in the southeastern United States. The researcher will be the primary source of data

and interpretation and will be able to relate the experiences of participants with ethical servant

leadership in their workplace and how the participants perceive the leadership. The researcher is

responsible for conducting the study ethically, fairly, and without bias.

To explore the study, the researcher will collect data via semi-structured interviews,

organizational documents, and organizational artifacts. A variety of sources of evidence will

facilitate triangulation because they will provide a full picture of participants' experiences and

allow findings to be developed from multiple perspectives, rather than from a single perspective.

The researcher will be informed of the study, will respect participant confidentiality, and will

comply with all requirements of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the protection and

privacy of participants.

The researcher understands from previous experience as an educational leader that there

is background in leadership and organizational culture, teacher engagement, as well as teacher

retention that can emerge from the study. These experiences can be useful for the researcher, but

the experiences are also likely to influence the researcher to interpret participants' experiences.
