- Soft palate: muscular, lifts to block nasal cavity during swallowing

SWALLOWING STEPS (PREVENT ASPIRATION)
- Epiglottis closes over trachea
- Soft palate elevates to close nasopharynx
- Larynx lifts and vocal cords close

TRACHEA & BRONCHIAL TREE
- Trachea: held open by C-shaped cartilage rings

LUNG LOBES
