Pertussis
Also known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory disease. It is caused by the
bacterium Bordetella pertussis
This repository disease is known for uncontrollable, violent coughing which often makes it
hard to breathe
Pertussis Assessment
Airway patency. Maintaining patent airway is always the first priority.
Auscultation. Auscultate lungs for presence of normal or adventitious breath sounds.
Respirations. Assess respirations, note quality, rate, pattern, depth, flaring of nostrils, dyspnea
on exertion, evidence of splinting, use of accessory muscles, and position for breathing.
