SOLIDWORKS CSWA EXAM TERMS WITH
CORRECT ANSWERS 2026

This comprehensive glossary covers essential terminology for the Certified
SOLIDWORKS Associate (CSWA) exam, including sketch entities, features,
drawing views, simulation concepts, and assembly techniques.

GEOMETRIC & SKETCH TERMS

1. Perpendicular
At an angle of 90° to a given line, plane, or surface.

2. Plane
Flat construction geometry. Can be used for a 2D sketch, section view of a model,
and others.

3. Vertex
A point at which two or more lines or edges intersect. Can be selected for
sketching, dimensioning, and many other operations.

4. Origin
Appears as three gray arrows and represents the (0,0,0) coordinate of the model.

5. Quadrant
The four quarters of the coordinate plane.

6. Diameter
A straight line passing from side to side through the center of a circle or sphere.

,7. Radius
A straight line from the center to the circumference of a circle or sphere.

8. Circumference
The perimeter of a circle.

9. Arc
Part of a circle connecting two points on the circle.

10. Axis
A straight line that can be used to create model geometry, features, or patterns.
Can be made in a number of different ways, including using the intersection of two
planes.

11. Symmetrical
Made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis.

12. Parallel
Side by side and having the same distance continuously between them.

13. Tangent
A line in the plane of a circle that intersects the circle in exactly one point.

14. Fillet
An internal rounding of a corner or edge in a sketch, or an edge on a surface or solid.

15. Chamfer
Bevels a selected edge or vertex. Can be applied to both sketches and features.

16. Extrusion
A feature that linearly projects a sketch to either add material to a part (in a base or
boss) or remove material from a part (in a cut or hole).

, 17. Revolve
A feature that creates a base or boss, a revolved cut, or revolved surface by
revolving one or more sketched profiles around a centerline.

18. Loft
A base, boss, cut, or surface feature created by transitions between profiles.

19. Sweep
Creates a base, boss, cut, or surface feature by moving a profile (section) along a
path.

20. Profile
A sketch entity used to create a feature (such as a loft) or a drawing view (such as a
detail view). Can be open or closed.

21. Spline
A sketched 2D or 3D curve defined by a set of control points.

22. Sketch Entities
Basic drawing elements including lines, centerlines, circles, arcs, rectangles, slots,
and ellipses.

23. Sketch Tools
Tools including Add Relation, Trim, Offset, Convert, Mirror, and Fillet.

24. Construction Geometry
Geometry used as a reference for creating features, not part of the final solid
model.

25. Geometric Relations
Constraints applied to sketch entities such as coincident, concentric, equal, fix,
horizontal, vertical, parallel, perpendicular, and tangent.
