,CHECK POINT MATHEMATICS 100 QUESTIONS
STUDY MODULE / REVISION GUIDE students can read BEFORE attempting the 100 questions.
It covers all the areas in your CHECK POINT so they go in prepared.
HOW TO USE THIS MODULE
Read each section carefully. Take notes. Practice the examples. Then attempt the 100 questions.
SECTION 1: NUMBER & APPROXIMATION
What to know:
1. Decimal Places: Count after ‘.’ 0.002567 to 3dp = 0.003.
2. Significant Figures: Start counting from first non-zero. 0.000345 to 2sf = 0.00035
3. Round to nearest: 20935 to nearest 1000 = 21000. 10.05 to nearest whole = 10
SECTION 2: FRACTIONS, DECIMALS, %
Rules:
1 1 8
1. Add/Subtract: Find LCM. 3 + 2 = 16/5 + 7/3 = 83/15 = 5
5 3 15
2. Multiply/Divide:To divide, flip. 15 ÷ 3/5 = 15 x 5/3 = 25
3. Decimals to Fraction: 0.75 = 75/100 = 3/4
4. %: "Per 100". 25% of 80 = 25/100 x 80 = 20. 3/5 to % = 60%
5. Ratio: If A:B = 2:3 and A=8, then 8/2=4. So B = 3x4 = 12
SECTION 3: ALGEBRA
1. Solve:2x + 5 = 15 → 2x = 10 → x = 5
2. Indices: Same base, add powers. 2³ x 2² = 2⁵. Any number power 0 = 1
3. Simple Factorization: x² + 5x + 6 = (x+2)(x+3)
SECTION 4: GEOMETRY & SHAPES
A. Angles & Lines
1. Triangle = 180°. Quadrilateral = 360°. Right angle = 90°
2. Complementary = add to 90°. Supplementary = add to 180°
3. Parallel lines never meet. Perpendicular lines meet at 90°
B. Plane & Solid Shapes
1. Plane 2D: Triangle, Square, Kite, Pentagon, Hexagon, Circle
2. Solid 3D:Cube, Sphere, Cylinder, Cone
3. Cube: 8 vertices, 12 edges
4. Lines of symmetry: Triangle = 3, Square = 4, Kite = 1
C. Circle
Radius = center to edge. Diameter = 2 x radius
Sector = slice with 2 radii. Segment = area between chord and arc
Circumference = π x d. Use π = 22/7. Example: d=14cm, C=44cm
, SECTION 5: MENSURATION - FORMULAS
Memorize these:
1. Area Rectangle = Length x Breadth
2. Area Triangle = 1/2 x base x height
3. Area Circle = πr²
4. Perimeter Square = 4 x side
5. Volume Cube= side x side x side
SECTION 6: STATISTICS
1. Mean = Total / Number of items. Example: 1,3,2,4 = 10/4 = 2.5
2. Mode = Number that appears most
3. Median = Middle number. Arrange first
4. Range = Biggest - Smallest. 12 - (-11) = 23
5. Table: Mean = Total of fx / Total of frequency
SECTION 7: PROBABILITY
Formula: P = Number you want / Total number
Example: 4 red balls out of 12. P(red) = 4/12
P(not happening) = 1 - P(happening). If P(pass)=1/5, then P(fail)=4/5
Independent = one does not affect the other. Coin toss
Mutually Exclusive = cannot happen together
SECTION 8: COMMERCIAL MATH & MEASUREMENT
1. Simple Interest = P x R x T / 100. 1000 for 2yrs at 5% = 100
2. Discount = % x Price. 10% of 500 = 50
3. Profit = Selling Price - Cost Price
4. Speed = Distance / Time. 100km in 2hrs = 50km/h
5. Conversions: 1hr=60min, 1m=100cm, 1km=1000m, 1L=1000ml, 1 dozen=12
SECTION 9: EXTRA CHECKPOINT TOPICS
These are simple and come often:
1. LCM: Smallest number both can divide. LCM of 6 and 8 = 24
2. HCF: Biggest number that can divide both. HCF of 12 and 18 = 6
3. Prime Number: Only divisible by 1 and itself. 17 is prime
4. Sequences: 2,4,8,16... multiply by 2. 1,3,5,7... odd numbers
5. Sets - Basic: Union = put together. Intersection = common ones
CHECKPOINT EXAM TIPS
1. Read question twice. Circle key words: "to 3dp", "mean", "probability"
2. Write formula first before putting numbers
3. Check if your answer makes sense. Can circumference be 4cm for d=14cm? No.
4. Manage time: 100 questions in 2hrs
