History of Present Illness (HPI)
A 22-month-old male brought to the outpatient pediatric clinic by his mother due
to concerns regarding social interaction and developmental delays. The mother
reports that over the past 6–8 months, she has noticed that J.M. does not engage
in typical toddler play behaviors. He prefers to play alone, rarely makes eye
contact, and does not respond consistently when his name is called.
The mother states that He has limited verbal output, primarily using sounds and
occasional single syllables, but does not form meaningful words. He does not
point to objects of interest or attempt to share enjoyment with others. He exhibits
repetitive behaviors such as hand flapping when excited and lining up toys
repeatedly. He becomes distressed when routines are changed.
No history of regression in skills is reported. The mother denies fever, seizures,
head trauma, or recent illness. Appetite and sleep patterns are reported as
normal. No concerns for abuse or neglect.
