1. All living things are made up of cells
2. Cells are the most basic unit of life The smallest working unit that can perform life

3. All cells come from pre-existing cells through cell division
Characteristics of Living Things
- All Living Organisms do the following
- If it does only one of these things, it does not make it a living thing
- An organism must exhibit all of these characteristics to be considered living
- Hence why viruses are not living things; they do not make energy or produce
waste
1. Obtain and use energy to carry out life processes
2. Produce Waste
3. Grow
4. Reproduce
5. Respond / Adapt to Environment
- This plant grows toward the light; grows towards their environment; adapt
