QUESTION 1
1.1 Explain in detail Activity-On-Arrow (AOA) network diagram. Search articles, IT industry
magazines and sites for Activity-On-Node (AON) which is another format of network
diagram that focuses on precedence diagramming method (PDM). Discuss the method and
indicate how the format is different from or similar to AOA. (5)
NB: Please do not discuss Program Evaluation and Review Techniques (PERT) as part of
your answer to question 1.1. This is because Question 3.4 of this is based on that. Activity on
Arrow (AOA):
It is composed of arrows and nodes. The arrows represent the activities and nodes
represent the events.
Each activity carries a brief description usually printed on the logical diagram, the
activity name or symbol and the time duration.
At present, this method seems to be the most popular method and it was the first
method to be introduced, developed and computerized
Activity on Arrow Advantages:
An arrow denotes passage of time and therefore is better suited (than a node) to represent a
task.
Scheduling (manually) on an AOA diagram is easier than on an AON diagram.
In general, AOA needs fewer arrows than AON and therefore the network will be more
