Artikel: Journalistieke ethiek in digitale tijdperk

●​ De journalist is van oudsher een van degenen die aan de knoppen van de
informatiestromen zit → brengt informatie naar buiten als ‘nieuws’ en bepaalt mede
de betekenis de informatie meekrijgt
●​ Selectie, duiding en interpretatie = klassieke journalistieke vaardigheden
●​ Lippman-Dewey debat draaide om de relatie tussen de ‘massa’ en de ‘media’
​ Lippman hekelde de dreigende bekrompenheid en ontvankelijkheid voor
propaganda bij de grote menigte (pleitte voor kwaliteitspers)
​ Dewey publiceerde ‘the public and its problems’ waarin hij een lans brak over
het individu als bron van autoriteit
●​ Het rapport van de Hutchins Commission (‘Commission on Freedom of the Press’)
pleitte voor een meer elitistische pers die de onderbuik van de samenleving zou
cultiveren
●​ Kernwaarden van het journalistieke bedrijf:
​ Waarheid: Eerbied voor waarheid en voor het recht van het publiek op
waarheid is de eerste plicht van de journalist
​ Objectiviteit: De kranten werden als de basis van nieuwsvoorziening in ieder
geval onomstreden, algemeen geaccepteerde zaken te presenteren
