, words in bold.) Why do we stress these words?
We stress the main content words (the main verbs ‘set’/’don’t’ and ‘wake’, the noun ‘alarm’
and the key result ‘time’) because they carry the main meaning of a sentence. We usually do
not stress small grammar words like ‘if’, ‘I’, ‘my’, or ‘up’ because they are not the main
meaning of a sentence.

5. What timeline will you use to help students
to understand the first conditional?
You must include an actual timeline, not
just a description.
