My career goals are to advance in leadership in order to help advocate for healthcare
staffing as well as patients. I have currently taken on the role of a clinical unit educator and while
I have found it very interesting and challenging at times. I feel there is much more that I have to
offer to the medical community. I would like to further my career by moving upwards with my
position and to help create a work environment that has the culture and feel of positive
engagement.
An overview of where you would like to focus your time and energies within the profession
I would like to focus my time and energies in the nursing profession with regard on
creation of a unit that strives for excellence and does not tolerate mediocrity. I believe that starts
from leadership. I value the statement of leading by example and leaders eat last. After being in
healthcare many years I have come to find that the creation of the culture and values is where the
least amount of time is spent, and I feel it should be the opposite. In order to provide the quality
of care a patient deserves, the environment needs to be positive and welcoming.

throughout your nursing career.
My mission statement will help guide me throughout my nursing career by helping to keep me
grounded and humble. So often one can get wrapped up in the chaos of the day to day and forget
about the bigger picture. Remembering that the main focus for healthcare is providing the
highest quality of care for the patient. Remembering that in order to be a good leader and
coworker one must never forget the basics with compassion and empathy.

learner and a healthcare professional.
The artifacts included on A2a in my e-portfolio represent me as a learner and a healthcare
professional because of the D030 papers and the go reacts that describe my drive and aim to
constantly make improvements with a process and be the nurse innovator that does not settle for
mediocrity.
b. Discuss how a specific artifact in your e-portfolio represents your professional strengths.
The artifact included on A2b is the social emotional Intelligence Table with a direct focus
on the five Social Emotional Intelligence (SEI) power skills. The SEI power skills defined
include self-awareness, self-management, interpersonal communication, executive function,
social awareness. Each day in my nursing practice in the Operating room I utilize each one of the
SEI power skills. Have the knowledge and the background allows me to establish my
professionalism and utilize my strengths as a leader.
, c. Discuss challenges you encountered during the progression of your program and explain how
you overcame these challenges.
I came across many challenges during my progression of the program. I work full time as
a surgical services’ clinical educator, mother of two toddlers (3 and 4) one who is special needs,
and wife. During the first semester of my program our home came into major damage from a
leaking air-conditioner causing us to have to live in an extended stay hotel for 6 weeks. Thus,
leading to having to fight with homeowner’s insurance on top of that. I was able to handle the
course program by merely taking it one task at a time. I have a supportive husband and would
allow me to have time to study and do my course work. Without his support and time finishing
the courses would have been almost impossible.
d. Explain how your coursework helped you meet each of the nursing program outcomes.
The coursework helped me meet each of the nursing program outcomes by allowing me to
grow and mold my current skills further with evidence-based information and communication. I
am able to professionally stand my ground and know that my hard work and education are part
of my training and what has helped me become a professional leader. For example, I feel with all
the papers I completed it has helped me become a more thoughtful writer as well as increasing
my grammatical skills.
1. Communicate effectively in oral, written, interpersonal, and electronic modes.
The coursework though out the program allowed my to develop my communication skills
and complete this outcome. I have learned to be a more effective communicator by speaking
more professionally with sound evidence to back my statements. I have also developed my
written communication skills to be more grammatically correct and to write with minimal
errors. The use of the writing center and the written feedback from the course evaluations
have a been a great resource. I have become better with interpersonal communication from
the program due to the skills like the power skills in the social emotional intelligence table. I
have become a better communicator with the electronic modes due to the Go react videos and
Panopto videos as well as from my attendance of the live cohorts. I feel that this program has
enabled the skills I needed to succeed to fulfil this outcome.
2. Use clinical reasoning to provide safe, quality, nursing care based on the best available
evidence and ethical principles.
The coursework though out the program allowed me to apply the clinical reasoning skills to
provide safe, quality nursing that is based on the best available evidence and ethical
principles in the surgical unit. I am able to stay current with the research and evidence with
resources like the WGU library and apply them to my clinical practice to provide the best
care possible.
3. Assume accountability for providing and ensuring safe, efficient, quality care congruent
with ethical, professional, and legal standards.
The coursework though out the program allowed me to assume accountability for providing
