A two-dimensional (2D) shape is a flat geometric figure that has only two dimensions

Key Concept 1: Dimensions (Length and Width)
Dimensions refer to the measurable extents that define a shape. Two-dimensional
shapes possess only two dimensions, length (how long the shape is) and width (how
wide the shape is). This distinguishes 2D shapes from 3D objects, which have a third
dimension, depth or height. For example, a rectangle drawn on paper has length and
width but no physical thickness

A plane is a flat, two-dimensional surface that extends infinitely in all directions. When
we say a 2D shape lies "in a single plane," it means all points of the shape exist on the
same flat surface without any elevation or depth. This concept is fundamental because
it explains why 2D shapes cannot be physically held like 3D objects; they are abstract
representations of flat surfaces. For instance, a triangle drawn on a chalkboard exists

shapes by enabling them to recognise, identify, and describe right angles, angles
smaller than right angles, and angles greater than right angles within various polygons.
This lesson aims to build learners' foundational geometric knowledge that will prepare
them for more advanced angle concepts in Grade 6, including acute, obtuse, straight,
reflex, and revolution angles (DBE, 2011a, p. 26; TMN3704 Study Guide, 2024, p. 98).
2.2 Write down the two objectives that you want your learners to have achieved

By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to identify and describe right angles in
