This review paper provides a systematic thematic analysis of the core concepts
examined in the AQA A-Level Psychology Paper 2 (2021), which assesses
students' understanding of approaches in psychology, biopsychology, and
research methods. Drawing upon the 50-item multiple-choice mark scheme as
the primary analytical framework, the paper identifies and synthesises five
major content domains: (1) the six principal psychological
approaches—behaviourist, social learning, cognitive, biological,
psychodynamic, and humanistic; (2) biopsychology fundamentals including the
nervous system, neural transmission, and brain organisation; (3) biological
rhythms and their classification; (4) research methods and experimental design;
and (5) ethical principles and statistical reasoning. The analysis reveals that the
examination places substantial emphasis on students' ability to distinguish
between related but conceptually distinct constructs, such as negative
reinforcement versus punishment, and assimilation versus accommodation. This
