Investment steps
(1) Set your investment goal – determine what your investment goal is.
(2) Determine investment vehicle
What do you want to invest in?
Self-trading
Assisted trading – are you going to get a third party to do it for you?
(3) Decide on your investment strategy
What’s your method of investment?
Are you going to be an active investor? Buy and hold
Are you going to be a passive investor? Pay third party to invest on
your behalf
Trading – a lot more instantaneous than as an active investor. Buy
and sell actively.
(4) Select the funds you want to invest in
Research what funds you want to invest in:
Shares only?
Funds?
Local or global?
Ask yourself how wide you want your portfolio to be
Are you going to stick to the same company or change the
portfolio?
Explore other investment options
(5) Invest consistently i.e. monthly
Budget your investment every month and increase the amount if
possible
Make sure you have access to the Financial Times Online.
