Looking at Movies Chapter 2: Principles of Film Form – Review Questions and
Answers

How and why do we differentiate between form and content in a movie, and why are they
relevant to one another? - ANS ✔✔The content of the movie is the subject of the artwork (what
the work is about) and form is the means by which that artwork is expressed. They're paired
together because works of art need them both. Content allows it to be expressed and form
supplies methods necessary to present it to an audience.

What expectations of film form can filmmakers exploit to shape an audience's experience? -

it seem as if the scene is going a certain direction, then immediately change story line and catch

can have shots to create a mood then change it by changing color, lighting, framing, content,
etc.

How do movies create an illusion of movement? - ANS ✔✔Two interacting optical and
perceptual phenomenon: persistence of vision and phi phenomena. Persistence of vision is a
process in which the brain retains a fraction of a second longer than the eyes record it. Phi
Phenomena is the illusion of movement in which two events succeed each other rapidly.

How does a movie manipulate space? - ANS ✔✔Movie scenes move and change. Although you
sit still, the continuation of space from scene to scene is established. Using motion-picture
