Question 1 [16 Marks]
1. A system to control antilock braking in the car
The most appropriate software process model for an antilock braking system is the
Waterfall Model or V-Model. This is because the system is safety-critical and requires
extensive documentation, verification, and validation at every stage. The requirements
are usually well defined before development begins, and strict testing procedures are
necessary to ensure reliability and safety. Any failure in the braking system could lead
to serious accidents, therefore a structured and carefully controlled process is required.
2. A virtual reality system to support software maintenance
The most suitable model is the Incremental Development Model. Virtual reality
systems often involve new technologies and changing user requirements. By
developing the system incrementally, developers can build and test different features
step by step while obtaining user feedback. This allows improvements and refinements
throughout development and reduces risks associated with innovative systems.
3. A university accounting system that replaces an existing system
The most appropriate model is the Reuse-Oriented Software Engineering Model.
Since an accounting system already exists, developers can reuse components,
databases, and business rules from the current system. This approach reduces
development time, cost, and risk because many features are already known and tested.
It also ensures compatibility with existing university operations.
