Site Option 1: Cato Ridge, KwaZulu-Natal

Geographical Description

Cato Ridge is located approximately 50 km west of the city of Durban in the province of
KwaZulu-Natal. The area lies between Durban and Pietermaritzburg and is strategically
positioned near the N3 national highway. The region experiences a subtropical climate
with warm, wet summers and mild, dry winters.

Exact Location

 Coordinates: 29.744° S, 30.583° E
 Situated adjacent to the N3 corridor near Camperdown.

Site Characteristics

Flora

The site contains patches of KwaZulu-Natal Sandstone Sourveld grassland with
scattered indigenous vegetation and some transformed agricultural land.

Fauna

Species commonly found include small mammals, reptiles, birdlife, and insects. No
major endangered species are expected within the transformed sections of the site.

, Topography

The terrain is moderately undulating with gentle slopes suitable for large-scale
construction. Soil stability is generally acceptable for infrastructure development.

Hydrology

Several seasonal drainage lines occur near the site. Stormwater management systems
would therefore be necessary.

Accessibility

Excellent accessibility via the N3 highway makes the site ideal for transportation and

 Located inland from the coastal residential zone.
