Master neuroanatomy with this comprehensive Exam 2 study guide tailored for Anatomy & Physiology II students. This resource covers essential brain structures, spinal tracts, ventricles, meninges, cranial nerves, and primary cortex functions. Detailed explanations of ascending and descending tracts, reflex arcs (monosynaptic and polysynaptic), and autonomic nervous system divisions (sympathetic vs parasympathetic) ensure clarity for exam prep. A&P Exam Review 2

Anatomy & Physiology II With Lab (Chamberlain University)

, Exam 2 Study Guide
1.) Know general features of the brain.
Gyrus: An elevated ridge on the surface of
the cerebrum
Sulci: Depressions in between gyri
2.) What tracts are carrying descending (motor) and ascending (sensory)
info?
ASCENDING TRACTS:
A.) Lateral Spinothalamic- pain and temp
B.) Anterior Spinothalamic- crude touch and pressure
C.) Dorsal Column-Medial Lemniscal Pathway (Fasciculi gracilis
and cuneatus)- discriminative touch and vibration
D.) Anterior and Posterior Spinocerebellar- Unconscious
kinestesia
E.) Spinotectal- touch related to visual reflexes
DESCENDING TRACTS:
A.) Corticospinal tracts- Carry motor information from brain to
spine.
B.) Lateral corticospinal- Voluntary movements
C.) Anterior corticospinal- Ipsilateral voluntary movements
D.) Reticulospinal- Maintain posture
E.) Rubrospinal- Coordinate body movements and posture
F.) Tectospinal- Head and neck movement in response to visual
reflexes
G.) Vestibulospinal- Coordinate posture and balance
3.) Know location of ventricles
Lateral ventricle (x2) (In the cerebral hemispheres)
Third ventricle- The third ventricle is located between the right and left
thalamus, and part of the hypothalamus
Fourth ventricle- Center of the posterior fossa
4.) Know layers of meninges.
Dura mater- directly beneath the skull and vertebral column
Arachnoid mater- between dura mater (outermost) and pia mater
(inner most)
Pia mater- the innermost layer of the three membranes, or meninges
5.) Know functions of cranial nerves.
CN 1 Olfactory- Smell Sensory
